Fuel 3D Studio Interface

Studio, Fuel3D's SCANIFY 3D scanner software, helps users to easily capture and manipulate their 3D scans.

Background

Fuel 3D are manufacturers of SCANIFY: the high-speed, high resolution, handheld 3D scanner that allows you to quickly and easily capture 3D models of everyday objects for 3D printing or on-screen applications.

Fuel3 needed a high-end, usable interface for it's Studio software and I worked closely with their developers and product managers to develop their prototype and functionality requirements into a marketable product.

Heuristic review

After familiarising myself with their prototype and functionality specification I made some recommendations for improvements to the user interface to make it more user friendly. Studio is a single screen interface which utilises panels and modals for various states which meant that we had to ensure the user was clear about which task they are doing at any given time.

Visual Design

SCANIFY is a quality product and we wanted to ensure that Studio matched its counterpart in usability and aesthetics. We iterated through several styles, gaining feedback from users and stakeholders to get the right fit.

Iconography

Iconography for this software was key to providing a good experience. There are many pieces of functionality which are combined into toolbars and they have to be clear and easy to understand.
